Another history autist here - the shields are too big for phalanx. The shields they had were almost half that size, and hang loose on a strap while the sarissa was held with 2 hands.

 

Anyway, came here because the art rocks!

Excuse me, but I think those are WAY too long to be greek spears, which were 2 to 2,5m long. These look much more like macedonian sarissas ( 5 to 6m in the time of Alexander if I am not mistaken ), so this should be a macedonian phalanx.

Good eye, ashimbabber! This is actually an illustration of phalanx of Alexander's army, so they are Macedonian.
